Obituary for Kenneth R. Britigan

Kenneth R. Britigan
Kenneth R. Britigan
December 15, 1949 – March 20, 2017

Ken Britigan, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away Monday, March 20th, 2017 by natural causes.

He is survived by his wife, Richelle Britigan; his daughter and her husband, Sarah Britigan and Danny Pruiett; his son, Matthew Britigan; his daughter and her husband, Amy and William Villar; his sister, Eleanor Armstrong; and his grandchildren, Adelynn and Andrew Pruiett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Myrtle Britigan; his sisters, Marlys Salo and Joan Saint; his brothers, Marlyn and Norman Britigan; and brothers in law, Cliff Saint and Don Armstrong.

Ken was born in Riverdale, North Dakota and grew up in Reager, Kansas where he helped his parents run a café and gas station. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1977. In 1980 he met the love of his life and married her on December 3, 1983. Throughout their 33 year marriage they welcomed in three wonderful children and two beautiful grandchildren, creating an amazing life and family together full of adventures, precious moments, and an abundance of laughs.

Ken dedicated 20 years of his life to the youth at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. He played an integral part in the lives of the youth there, encouraging them throughout their journey, and was always so proud of their successes and accomplishments. After he retired from CSDB in 2005 he pursued another passion of his, a painting and handyman business with his son, Matthew. Much like when Ken was growing up helping his parents with their family business, Ken passed down the tradition while working alongside his son for many years, teaching him lessons that will last a lifetime.

Ken’s favorite hobby was camping. He would often go on impromptu camping trips, hook up the trailer, grab the fishing poles, and his axe to cut wood, and then head up into the gorgeous Rocky Mountains. These trips were never complete without his guitar. Ken enjoyed music and would always have a tune ready to share with his family and friends. Ken also enjoyed volunteering at “Fishing Has No Boundaries,” where he would donate his time and laughter to that event every year. The many months of beautiful weather that Colorado offers every year allowed Ken to get in plenty of time on his motorcycle. Ken’s home is full of all the interesting antiques he collected over the years, another one of his cherished hobbies. One thing that brought Ken great joy was caring for his grandchildren, whom he adored immensely; sharing with them the same jokes, stories, and memories that he shared with his children as they grew up. Wherever Ken was, his trusted sidekick, his dog Baylee, was never far from his side. He loved his dog, his best friend, and that feeling was reciprocated by sweet Baylee. She along with all Ken’s family and friends will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory towards an education fund for his grandchildren at: gofundme.com/in-memory-of-kenneth-britigan
