He was the father of three children: Robin A. Huffman of Paradise, California, Ronald A. Foster (deceased), Russell A. Dick attended high school in Waupaca, Wisconsin and Buffalo, Missouri where he enjoyed being a member of the basketball and track teams as well as playing a trombone in the school band and orchestra. He did his undergraduate study at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri where he continued as first trombonist in the university and ROTC bands and orchestras. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry - Kansas City, Missouri in 1962. Upon graduation from dental school, he joined the Army Dental Corps serving a rotating dental internship and a specialty residency in prosthodontics at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco. He became board certified in the specialty of prosthodontics in 1969. Dick served as an officer in the Army Dental Corps until his retirement in 1991.
