Obituary for Charlann Widmoyer Hoit-Jeffrey

Charlann Widmoyer Hoit-Jeffrey
Charlann Widmoyer Hoit-Jeffrey was born April 16, 1937 and passed away May 22, 2018. She was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas to Ann and Charles Seaney. Her father was a prominent oilman for fifty years in Wichita and she and her two sisters, Mary Eileen and Susan were fortunate to have inherited their parent’s oil and gas royalties that are still producing.

Charlann graduated from Wichita High School East in 1955 and attended Monticello College for Women in Alton, Illinois from 1955-56. In 1957 she married Leon Engstrand, her high school and college sweetheart, and were divorced in 1961. She moved to Denver, Colorado to start life over and worked at TV Guide Magazine as Assistant Editor. She married Cliff Widmoyer in late 1962 and had 2 sons, Kevin Allen Widmoyer and Brett Lane Widmoyer. Cliff died in 1977. Kevin died in 2000 at the age of 37. In 1984, she married Don Hoit, a well-known homebuilder who passed away a short two years later of cancer. In 1991, she married George Jeffrey, Vice President and owner of KKTV CBS Channel 11 who was retired. They were married 23 years. George passed away in October of 2013.

She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend and was especially devoted to her two sons and two grandsons; spoiling them every chance she got. She took great pride in her lovely southern colonial home in Colorado Springs where she raised her two sons, alone. Upon her marriage to George Jeffrey, they lived in Kissing Camels Estates, had a winter home in Palm Springs, California and later she and George built a second home in Sun Lakes, Arizona at an active adult retirement golf community.

During her early years, Charlann was independent and fully engaged in life raising two sons alone. She was a prominent member of the community. She was President of Stewart Title Insurance in Colorado Springs, and took part in real estate ventures. She later became an independent travel agent specializing in “Charlann Cruises” which provided her the opportunity for world travel. She was highly respected for her business accomplishments as well as her charitable endeavors.

She was a member of Colorado Springs Country Club for over forty years, the Garden of the Gods Club. She served on numerous boards and did volunteer work in various charities for fourteen years. She spent 13 years at Ecumenical Social Ministries as counselor for the homeless. She was on the Legacy Guild of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region up to her death.

Charlann was a devout Christian and spent all of her adult life at Grace Episcopal Church for some forty years.

Charlann leaves to mourn her passing: her beloved son: Brett Widmoyer; grandson: Kevin Widmoyer, II both of Colorado Springs; grandson: Sterling Gilbertson of Peyton, Colorado; sisters: Mary Eileen (Don) Diamond and Susan (Mike) Osborn, both residents of Phoenix, Arizona; niece: Mary Lynn (Brian) Allen of Oklahoma City; nephews: Jason Ransdell, Brad Osborn (Jana and family) and Mike Osborn, Jr., all residents of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as her best friend of 50 plus years: Clois Fiala and her 3 children: Marvin (Yolanda) Fiala, Janice (Dan) Fiala Latham and Clifford Fiala, Jr., all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by her little poodle, Sir Marley.

Her family and friends express their feelings that they will miss her big heart and kindness to everyone she ever met and loved her dearly. She was a special lady.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church; Reverend Jeremiah Williamson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbott Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80905, or to Grace Episcopal Church, 601 North Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
