Obituary for John Wilford Biggs

John Wilford Biggs
John Wilford Biggs
September 3, 1946 – May 23, 2018

John Wilford Biggs was born in September 1946, the second of 10 children, to Wilford and Margaret. He grew up in Marceline, Missouri, where he had many adventures with his brothers and their neighborhood friends.

John was drafted into the United States Army and spent time in Germany, Luxembourg, and Vietnam. He bore both the pride and the scars of that experience for the rest of his life.

In 1971, John married Marlene Blazer. He was known to say that he knew he was meant to be with her because, many years before, he had a vision about their wedding. John and Marlene started their own family, bringing four children into the world. John was devoted to his family, always putting them first, doing all kinds of interesting jobs throughout the years.

John always told people that they were special and that he loved them “lots”. He lived his life by two guiding ideas: 1) Leave people a little better than you found them; even if that’s just a kind word or a witty remark to make them smile; and 2) “It’s all on the wheel” – What you put out in the Universe, you will get back in one way or another.

John passed away on May 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nora and her husband, Steve; and his nephews, Brandon Biggs and Travis Schulte. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; his children, Joseph, Shawn, Jennifer and Carol; his siblings, Pete, Mary, Jim, Paul, Peg, Hank, Ginny, Ken and their partners; and many nieces and nephews, their partners, and children.

John is loved and very special.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29 beginning at 4:00PM with a rosary said at 6:00PM. The funeral will be on Wednesday, May 30 at 2:00PM. Both will be at the Shrine of Remembrance at 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

For those who would like, donations in John's name can be made to the Marceline, Missouri Veterans' Memorial; care of Glen Lindbloom at American Legion Post 264; P.O. Box 264, Marceline, MO 64658.
