Obituary for Lt. Cmdr. Daniel E. McWilliams, USN (Ret.)

Lt. Cmdr. Daniel E. McWilliams, USN (Ret.)
Lt. Cmdr. Daniel E. McWilliams, USN (Ret.)
August 20, 1951 – April 18, 2018

McWilliams, Daniel E. Lt. Cmdr. USN (Ret.) passed away April 18 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs after a brief illness. He was born in St. Louis on August 20, 1951 to Joseph P. McWilliams Jr. and Mary Jane McWilliams (nee Held) now deceased.

He was father to Joel Wood and grandfather to Elijah; dear brother to Joseph P. McWilliams III (Nancy) and Kathleen Anne Spence (Malcolm), both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by siblings Michael (Vickie), Mary Fletcher (Ray deceased), and Ann Casella (Tony). He was uncle to Michelle, Joe, Kim, Kevin, Sharon and Heather.

Danny served in the US Army for two years, following which he obtained his degree at the University of Missouri. He then enlisted in the US Navy and served for over 20 years, principally on Aircraft Carriers (USS Kitty Hawk), finally retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Continuing his public service, he joined the St. Louis County Assessor’s office in a management position. After 10 years he retired to live in Colorado Springs, where he then served as president of his condominium association until his death.

His last request was that his ashes be scattered at Point Loma, one of his favorite places, near to his base for many years in San Diego.
