Obituary for Loren Duane Hurst

Loren Duane Hurst
Loren Duane Hurst was born October 8, 1930 in Plentywood, Montana. He was raised on the family ranch and graduated from Outlook High School. Loren lost his mother at age 9 and it was his stepmother who led him to the Lord at around age 12. He was baptized at Bubbling Springs Bible Camp. On November 30, 1958 he married Jean Davis from San Antonio, Texas. A year later they were blessed with a son, David Loren.

In 1960, the family moved to Burlington, Colorado where Loren continued in the farming business. Daughters Susan Jean and Judy Ann completed the family.

With the dreams of having their own place, in 1970 they purchased a farm/ranch near Palisade, Nebraska. Loren continued farming and ranching. Hard economic times lead to employment with Farm Land Industries for 20 years. All in God’s plan, that provided needed insurance to take care of the medical bills following Jean’s cancer diagnosis. A battle she lost in 1981.

Following retirement, Loren decided Burlington was a good place to dwell as it was in the middle of all three children and grandchildren. Loren loved the Lord and was faithful his entire life. He was ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Burlington. He also served as deacon and Gideon at Egan Park Baptist Church in McCook, Nebraska.

He is survived by his children: David (wife Judy Lynne) Hurst of Colorado Springs, Susan (husband Larry) Warkentin of Greeley, Colorado, Judy Ann (husband Lee) Mohr of Burwell, Nebraska; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Hurst and Joan Schmitz; 7 grandchildren: Jared, Amber, Anna, Tiffany, Brett, Ashley, Margaret; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean (Davis) Hurst.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 250 Cherry Street, Burlington, CO 80807 with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington.

Memorials in Loren’s name may be made to the Gideons International-Golden Prairie Camp, Mr. Jerry Herrel, president, 424 14th Street, Burlington, CO 80807 or First Baptist Church.
